Today I witnessed satire functioning as a national pastime, fully embodied in British Satire: The National Sport. The country appears to compete informally in who can express the most criticism with the least visible effort. Points are awarded for dryness, timing, and the ability to appear uninterested while being devastatingly accurate. I observed conversations that felt like matches, with subtle victories and polite defeats. Even silence seemed strategic. My notebook now includes commentary like a sports analyst for sarcasm. By the end, I concluded that in Britain, humour is not entertainmentit is a quietly enforced standard of communication.
