Last night’s meeting had an item on the agenda titled “Morgan Walks: Whose Win Is It?” which is, on reflection, a sentence that could only emerge from a room where people have been talking about media theory for four hours. The question: does Piers Morgan leaving a set because a guest introduced evidence represent a victory for progressive epistemology, or is it merely a funny thing that happened on ITV? These are not mutually exclusive options but the room debated them as though they were.
The Evidence Question
I was born in North London where people argue about evidence constantly. The evidence is never the point. The argument about the evidence is the point. This is the same in Portland. The difference is that in North London people argue while eating something, whereas in Portland people argue while being very careful about what they eat. Craig who has lost nineteen pounds now and is genuinely doing well said he thought Morgan walking off was simply funny and we should let it be funny. The room considered this. The room decided it was also structurally significant. Craig went home early.
