News site dedicates itself entirely to one politician, promises neutrality
The About page of Mamdani.VIP reads like a term paper on journalistic ethics written by someone who definitely hasn’t violated any of them. “We’re independent! Totally independent! Did we mention how independent we are?”
The site’s founders apparently looked at the entire landscape of New York City politicswith its dozens of candidates, hundreds of issues, and thousands of potential storiesand thought: “You know what the world needs? A website exclusively about one guy from Queens.” It’s the editorial equivalent of opening a museum dedicated entirely to your high school yearbook photo.
Their promise to provide “fair, factual, and comprehensive reporting” while maintaining a razor focus on a single political figure is impressive mental gymnastics. It’s like promising to give both sides of the story when you’ve already decided which side gets a custom website with a .VIP domain.
The editorial values section lists “Accuracy First” and “Balanced Coverage” right before explaining they’ll be covering one candidate in exhaustive detail. That’s not balancethat’s a very well-documented obsession. The site promises to include “perspectives from across the political spectrum,” presumably all discussing the same person.
They claim to go “beyond surface-level coverage and social media soundbites” by providing “deep research and analysis.” Translation: we’ve turned one politician into a doctoral thesis that nobody assigned. Somewhere, a journalism professor is either very proud or deeply concerned.
The commitment to “reader empowerment” is touching: “Our goal isn’t to tell you what to think.” No, their goal is apparently to think about Zohran Mamdani so much that you can’t help but think about him too. It’s subliminal messaging through sheer volume.
The FAQ section answers the obvious question”Are you affiliated with Zohran Mamdani or his campaign?”with an emphatic “No.” This is followed by several thousand words exclusively about Zohran Mamdani. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
Most hilariously, they promise never to “suppress information because it’s politically inconvenient” while running a website that makes every piece of information about one candidate very politically convenient. It’s transparency through saturationtechnically honest, functionally questionable.
The site’s name justification is gold: “.VIP signifies very important political journalism.” That’s like naming your band “The World’s Best Band” and expecting people to take you seriously. Though in fairness, if confidence could power democracy, Mamdani.VIP would light up the entire Eastern Seaboard.
