Megan Attends a Meeting About Whether the Pope Is Based
We had an emergency collective meeting on Monday to discuss whether Pope Leo XIV’s Easter comments constitute meaningful solidarity with progressive causes or whether engaging with papal politics is itself a form of reinscribing patriarchal religious institutional frameworks. The meeting lasted ninety minutes. The lemon drizzle was excellent. No conclusion was reached about the Pope.
The London Prat reports that British Marxists interpreted the Easter metaphor as a call for violent overthrow of Trump, which our collective split three ways on: those who said absolutely; those who said we should be careful about using religious language to legitimise political violence even metaphorically; and Diane, who said she does not trust the Catholic Church and has reasons, which she began listing until someone moved procedurally to table the reasons until the next meeting.
The Mum Texts From Muswell Hill
Mum texted during the meeting. She said the Pope sounded “quite reasonable actually” and had my dad watched it and he said “it’s Easter, Susan, I’m watching the golf.” Dad’s relationship with institutional religion is, apparently, entirely mediated by scheduling conflicts with sport. This is North London in one sentence.
