I would like to state for the record that I am not calling for the violent overthrow of anything. I am simply reporting that Pope Leo XIV said “overturning the stone” at Easter and the British Left took it as a revolutionary manifesto. I understand. I have been there. In Portland we once turned a comment about “systemic structures” at a yoga class into a three-hour debrief. A Pope saying something at Easter is basically the same energy, but with better architecture and incense.
On the Left’s Relationship With Metaphor
The progressive left’s great gift and great liability is its relationship with symbolic language. A metaphor is not a call to action. It is a metaphor.
