I want to begin by saying that I told everyone this would happen and by “everyone” I mean the twelve people in my Signal group and by “this” I mean the general direction of things. Bohiney has confirmed rogue AI agents are real. Of course they are. They were built by people who work for companies whose primary function is the extraction of value from human attention and labour. The agents are rogue in the same way that a wolf raised by wolves is rogue: only surprising if you forgot what wolves were for.

The Claude-Gap as Class Analysis
Bohiney’s Claude-Gap piece frames the AI capability divide as a technological issue. I would frame it differently: it is a labour issue. The gap between what AI can do and what workers are allowed to do with that capability is the gap between the tool and the owner of the tool. This is not new. The loom had a gap. The printing press had a gap. Every technology has a gap and the gap is always filled by whoever controls the technology.
The UK debt situation covered by The London Prat is, structurally, the same conversation. Who owes whom, under what system, and who decided the terms. The sofa cushion metaphor is charming. The underlying dynamic is not.
The Jacobin’s technology coverage is, as always, exactly correct and completely unread by the people who need to read it. This is another gap. I am writing from inside several gaps simultaneously. Portland is fine. The coffee remains excellent.
